How it works

An SRT to VTT converter is what people open when a download, YouTube export, or desktop editor still writes SubRip (.srt) and an HTML5 <track> or HLS player wants WebVTT. Changing .srt to .vtt does not add a WEBVTT header, and 00:00:01,000 is not a legal VTT timestamp. This page stays in the tab.

Drop or paste SRT — .srt, .vtt, or .txt, up to 2MB. A leading UTF-8 BOM and Windows line breaks are normalized. Nothing is uploaded.
Read each cue — optional index, a timestamp line with -->, then one or more text lines. Hours-less MM:SS,mmm is accepted. Old X1: / Y1: coordinates are dropped.
Map real differences — commas become periods. {an8}-style SSA positions become line / align cue settings. {i} / {b} become <i> / <b>. <font> wrappers are stripped so the words remain.
Check the timeline — inverted cues (end ≤ start), empty text, and overlaps are listed next to the preview. Optional millisecond shift moves every cue. Copy or download .vtt. Last paste and options stay in this browser only.

FAQ

What is the difference between SRT and VTT?

SRT numbers cues and writes milliseconds with a comma. WebVTT starts with WEBVTT, uses a period, and can carry cue settings such as line and align. Players that only read VTT will skip a renamed SRT.

Do {an} position tags survive?

Yes, when the option is on. {an1} through {an9} become WebVTT line / position / align so a title card stays at the top instead of the default bottom.

Do you upload my subtitles?

No. Parse, convert, validate, and encode all run in the tab. Close it and the file is gone. That matters for unreleased cuts.

Why a 5000-cue cap?

A feature-length dump can freeze the tab. The converter stops at 5000 cues so the preview stays usable. Split the file if you need more.

Can I shift late subtitles?

Yes. Enter milliseconds (negative is earlier). The same offset is applied to every start and end, then written into the VTT.
